Sustainable quality, environmental care and social responsibility

Sustainability and caring for the natural resources of the world is important to Kateha. We make of course sure that our production has the same view and works accordingly.

Kateha works with natural fibres, mainly wool which is a renewable natural fibre that is biodegradeable. As our production is done by hand, little or no energy is required. Our Indian production has certification for its environmental work (ISO 14001) and its quality work (ISO 9001).

The Woolmark certification means a rigorous quality control of the wool fibres we use in our rugs, and a guarantee for our customers.

Kateha’s Indian production, is well-known for taking – and for having for decades taken – a great social responsibility for its staff in the different processes by:

  • improving wages and working conditions,
  • improving the standard of the facilities at the place of work, and
  • actively supporting women’s right and possibility to work – not just in production but at all levels in the company. Naturally, they also have a certification for their social responsibility work (SA 8000).

It is important for Kateha that our production cares for its staff and their families, because it is the weavers, the knotters and the tufters who are the skilled craftsmen and women. They are the ones who by hand make the beautiful, quality rugs on which you can rest your eyes and your feet.

Care & Fair

The Kateha rugs produced in India are certified with Care & Fair. This means that rugs with this label have been produced without illegal child labour. It also means that money goes back to India and contributes to financial support for education and healthcare for the rug district’s children.

We are taking sustainable responsibility for our packaging

We are connected to the FTI (packaging and paper collection), which means
